(HealthDay News) -- If your picky eater snubs breakfast, offer some healthy substitutes for typical favorites.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers these suggestions:
- Skip the doughnuts and offer a whole-grain waffle topped with lower-sugar syrup. If you do have doughnuts, opt for a small serving of doughnut holes served with fruit and skim milk.
- Swap regular bacon for turkey or Canadian bacon, which has less fat.
- In lieu of toast with butter or jelly, serve whole-grain toast with peanut butter, along with a glass of skim milk or orange juice.
- Instead of sugary cereal, offer whole-grain, low-sugar cereal topped with fruit.
