RED BANK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HealthyWomen (www.healthywomen.org), the nation's leading independent health information source for women, has appointed Phyllis Greenberger, MSW, as Senior Vice President for Science and Health Policy. A pioneer in advancing women's health research, Ms. Greenberger will support HealthyWomen in its newly expanded focus to advance policies that will improve the health of women and women serving as health care decision makers.
As president and CEO of the Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR®) from 1993 until May 2016, Ms. Greenberger developed the Washington, D.C.-based SWHR into a widely recognized thought leader in advancing research on biological differences in disease and an advocate for the understanding that health and disease may differ fundamentally in women and men. For more than two decades, Ms. Greenberger has dedicated her time to transforming women's health through science, advocacy and education. She is the recipient of the HHS Office of Women's Health 2016 Trailblazer award in recognition of her work.
"Today, we understand the critical roles that sex differences play in health, wellness, treatment and disease progression," said Ms. Greenberger. "It is my pleasure to bring my experience to HealthyWomen, an organization known for providing evidence-based health and wellness information to women and their health care providers. I look forward to supporting HealthyWomen as it embraces a new dimension to its mission. This new focus to help women understand the science behind health research will keep HealthyWomen at the forefront of education, advocacy and policy-making."
Ms. Greenberger will serve as HealthyWomen's policy specialist in Washington, D.C., raising awareness of issues on access, safety and science and shaping the organization's positions, in coordination with HealthyWomen's CEO. She will also oversee the establishment of a new policy department as HealthyWomen builds out its policy focus and science and evidence-based research platform.
"We are thrilled to welcome Phyllis as the newest member of the HealthyWomen team," said Beth Battaglino, HealthyWomen CEO. "With her passion, expertise and extensive portfolio, she will give HealthyWomen a new voice for addressing women's unique health disparities across the health care continuum and energize our outreach to new partners in government, industry and advocacy."
