About The Expert

Dr. Pamela Peeke is an internationally recognized expert and speaker in the fields of nutrition and stress, as well as the newly evolving field of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Peeke has distinguished herself as one of the only physicians in America with formal training in nutrition science. Under the Pew Foundation, Dr. Peeke became a Pew Scholar in Nutrition and Metabolism and uses this position to educate consumers as well as medical professionals about nutrition science.

As a recognized scientist and physician, Dr. Peeke has appeared as in-studio expert on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Ted Koppel's Nightline, Public Broadcasting's Health Week, CNN Headline News, Good Morning America, and the CBS Morning Show. Dr. Peeke is a regular medicine and science commentator for CNN as well as the major networks. Dr. Peeke is a featured medicine and health commentator on National Public Radio as well as local Washington D.C. radio shows (WTOP, WASH). Dr. Peeke is medical correspondent with PBS's Health Week. Dr. Peeke was featured in PBS's documentary "Mind Over Mirror: Women's Body Image" Theresa Heinz Foundation Special, which won the coveted 1998 Gracie Award, the highest honor bestowed by Women in Film and Television. Dr. Peeke is the author of "Fit to Live: The 5-Point Plan to be Lean, Strong, and Fearless for Life" (Rodale Books, 2007) and the national best seller "Fight Fat After Forty" (Viking Press, 2000), which describes the science of how chronic stress contributes to weight gain and threatens the length and quality of life after the age of forty. Dr. Peeke is the monthly Lifestyle Coach columnist for Prevention magazine and serves on the editorial board of several national magazines, including Prevention and Shape magazines. Dr. Peeke is the Medical Editor of womensnewslink.com, a syndicated web site with news releases concerning the status of women and girls globally. Dr. Peeke is also the Medical Advisor to the National Women's Health Resource Center.

A native of San Francisco and a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Peeke received a Masters Degree in Public Health and Public Policy before pursuing her medical degree at Michigan. Dr. Peeke completed her training in internal medicine at the George Washington University Medical Center. After over ten years as a specialist in critical care and trauma, Dr. Peeke received the Pew Foundation Post-doctoral Scholarship in Nutrition and Metabolism at the University of California at Davis. As a Pew Scholar, Dr. Peeke was invited to come to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and pursue her work in nutrition and stress physiology. As a senior scientist, Dr. Peeke has focused her basic and clinical research upon the relationship between chronic stress and nutrition. At the NIH, Dr. Peeke was the recipient of the National Research Science Award Fellowship as well as the Intramural Research Training Award Fellowship. She was the first senior research fellow at the NIH's Office of Alternative Medicine where she established the scientific foundation for the research and development of investigations funded and supervised by the office.

Dr. Peeke holds the position of Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Peeke is devoted to the education of medical professionals in nutrition, lifestyle and fitness, and is presently teaching and devising new medical curricula in nutrition and metabolism. Dr. Peeke is a speaker and teacher with the National Youth Leadership Foundation, mentoring high school students who wish to pursue a career in medicine and science. Dr. Peeke works closely as an advisor and expert in mind-body fitness with the former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop for his national Shape Up America campaign. Dr. Peeke works directly with the Vice President's Office as the Medical Director of the National Race for the Cure for Breast Cancer.
