Emma Mon
Emma was born in Yorkshire, England and moved to America with her parents when she was 12. Her sister, cousins and aunts remain in England. Emma attended York College of Pennsylvania where she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She later received the James C. Tabb Fellowship, a scholarship to attend Villanova University to obtain her master’s degree in human resource development.
Emma met her husband of almost 25 years on a blind date. They got married in 2001. They have two kids: Peter, who is 20 years old, attending Purdue University studying data science, and Lexi, 18, who is attending University of Miami this fall and studying marketing. Emma was an avid runner and has run five half marathons and one full marathon, where she raised almost $8,000 for Susan G. Koman and she finished the marathon in 3 hours and 52 minutes. She also walked a half marathon with Bill in March 2024 for Fred’s team (the Memorial Sloan Kettering team) and they raised $14,090.
When Emma was able to work, she was an accomplished strategic HR leader with extensive global experiences focusing upon leadership, business transformation, design and execution and process optimization. Emma worked in the HR industry for almost 20 years, most recently as a head of HR for several different businesses. Emma had to go on disability in March 2023.
Emma’s husband (the love of her life), kids, family and friends have been an amazing support system during her chemo journey. While she is now bald and bloated from chemo meds/steroids (no one tells you gaining weight is a common occurrence!), she continues to embrace each day as a gift and tries to remind herself how lucky she is to still be alive — thanks to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
