About The Expert

Dr. Monica Mallampalli is a scientific thought leader and women’s health advocate. As a trained biomedical scientist, Dr. Mallampalli brings a unique perspective to health – from science and research to policy and advocacy. She is an expert in comprehending existing knowledge gaps and identifying critical next steps for addressing unmet needs in healthcare. Over the years, Dr. Mallampalli has built strong alliances with several stakeholders including patients, advocacy groups, researchers, clinicians, federal agencies, policy makers and biopharmaceutical companies.

Currently, Dr. Mallampalli serves as the Principal consultant at a healthcare consulting firm, M Strategies LLC which she founded. Her clients include HealthyWomen, The Reilly Group, Postpartum Support International, The Association of Migraine Disorders and Early Access Care, LLC. Dr. Mallampalli also serves on the Board of Directors at SCAD Alliance.

As a senior advisor on scientific and strategic initiatives at HealthyWomen, Dr. Mallampalli oversees health care related science and policy programs that align with HealthyWomen’s mission to educate and empower women to make informed health choices for themselves and their families. In July 2019, she organized two-day summit called Women and Chronic Pain, to bring focus on unmet needs on treatment, management and related barriers for women living with chronic pain. This unique summit convened leading researchers, clinicians, patient advocates and advocacy organizations to identify gaps and unmet needs and make recommendations for future action. Dr. Mallampalli also serves as a scientific and research lead for The Reilly Group on an ongoing joint initiative with Postpartum Support International called the Mind the Gap to ensure that perinatal mental health is a national priority. In 2019, Dr. Mallampalli established a multiyear Migraine Research Initiative at the Association of Migraine Disorders to identify and accelerate innovative basic and translational migraine research.

Previously, Dr. Mallampalli served as the Vice President of Scientific Affairs at the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) where she was the chief architect and subject matter expert for their two signature programs related to women’s health and sex-based biology - the scientific roundtables and the multi-year research networks. Through these programs, Dr. Mallampalli expertly and successfully engaged many stakeholders to develop measurable outcomes to advance policy and advocacy goals. She co-authored many research papers and reports on various health topics. Some of these publications have been instrumental in impacting policy and research as well as establishing the multi-year research networks with key opinion leaders.

Prior to SWHR, Dr. Mallampalli worked as a Health Policy Analyst and as a Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health. She was also a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Department of Cell biology. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Utah in Human Genetics and received a Master of Sciences with a concentration in Biochemistry from Osmania University in India. She lives in Ellicott City, Maryland, with her husband and two daughters.
