Biography
Victoria J. Teodorescu, MD, graduated from New York University School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency training in General Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Her residency training included an additional year of research, spent in the divisions of both Liver Transplant and Vascular Surgery. The Liver Transplant program was in the planning stages at the beginning of her research year. Dr. Teodorescu was involved not only in the development of computer databases, which are still in use in the department today, but also in lab experiments evaluating the use of hypothermia and exsanguinations as a means of reducing blood loss during liver transplants. Besides working with a liver transplant team, Dr. Teodorescu also completed a project evaluating the role of venous wall compliance in the development of chronic venous stasis.

After finishing her general surgery training, she began a year of additional training in vascular surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. Once training was completed, Dr. Teodorescu became Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Bronx VA Medical Center, an affiliate of Mount Sinai. During the five years spent there, she instituted the Diabetic Foot Clinic in conjunction with Podiatry and Endocrinology. This was a multidisciplinary practice set up to care for diabetics with foot ulcers with the express purpose of reducing the number of amputations done at the Bronx VA. Patients seen in this clinic required fewer emergency amputations for foot infection and lived significantly longer.

In 1998, Dr. Teodorescu moved to The Mount Sinai Medical Center as a member of the full- time staff in the Division of Vascular Surgery. She is currently Co-Director of the Vascular Laboratory. She remains interested in peripheral disease. She has developed innovative bypass techniques in collaboration with the plastic surgery for patients with severely diseased distal vessels and is currently investigating the use of stem cells for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease.

Dr. Teodorescu is board certified in General Surgery and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in General Vascular Surgery.
