About The Expert

Linda Dominguez is a nurse practitioner in the private gynecology practice at Southwest Women's Health in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has worked with Planned Parenthood of New Mexico for over 19 years, serving in various senior roles, including assistant medical director.

She also has served on many influential professional and community action boards and has been an officer on the boards of directors of:

  • Guttmacher Institute, the premier policy, research and advocacy organization in reproductive health/family planning. She is the first nurse practitioner to be appointed to this board and serves as second vice chair.
  • National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health (NPWH), a professional and women's advocacy organization; immediate past chair.
  • National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA).
  • Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP), chair of Policy Committee.
  • Reproductive Health Technologies Project (RHTP), a reproductive health think tank; past chair.

She is also on the editorial advisory board of Contraceptive Technology Update, as well as the editorial board for the American Journal for Nurse Practitioners. Linda Dominguez was selected by the Department of Labor and the International Women's Forum to be in the pioneer class of the Leadership Foundation Fellows 1994-95 Program. This has been described as "a first-of-its-kind national demonstration designed to shatter the ‘Glass Ceiling' for women in America," with a capstone project at the Kennedy School of Public Policy at Harvard University.

Other recognitions and awards include:

  • New Mexico Governor's Award for Outstanding New Mexico Women.
  • Hispanic Women of the Year, as recognized by the Mexican American Women Association, New Mexico Chapter.
  • Outstanding National Nurse Practitioner for NPWH in 1992.
  • YWCA Women on the Move Award, 1996.
  • Nurse of the Year, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Award of Excellence for the state of New Mexico, 2004.
  • Distinguished Alumni of the University of New Mexico's College of Nursing; recognized at the college's 50th anniversary in 2005.
  • 2007 Member of the Year, Association of Reproductive Health Professionals, Washington, D.C.

Linda Dominguez was invited by the Clinton White House in 1993 to participate in the Health Care Reform Professional Peer Review Group. She collaborated with the Office of the Surgeon General on the development of the "Call to Action: Toward Responsible Sexual Health." She has been on the National Medical Committee for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and was on the expert panel for the American Society of Colposcopist and Cervical Pathologist review of the 2006 guidelines for practice. In 2009 she was on the expert panel convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization to review and develop the U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use.

She was a founding member and chair of the New Mexico Teen Pregnancy Coalition. In addition she has spearheaded new voters registration drives in clinic settings and has established food banks for the community.

She has been a featured speaker and keynote speaker both locally and nationally regarding medical and nursing topics, along with minority issues in health care. She has authored many professional publications, as well as videos and DVDs that help to teach professional peers and health care consumers important information about women's health topics. She is one of the authors of Sexually Transmitted Diseases: A Practical Guide for Primary Care (Humana Press). She was featured on the Sirius Satellite Radio Playboy Channel call-in show, Afternoon Advice, regarding concerns about sex health and contraception.
