Carol Landau, PhD

CAROL LANDAU, PhD, is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry & Human Behavior and Medicine at the Alpert Medical School, Brown University, in Providence, RI. Dr. Landau also maintains an independent practice as a consulting clinical psychologist and is an award-winning author.

Dr. Landau has published over 75 scientific articles and chapters on health and psychological issues. She authored the chapter on depression in the book, The Primary Care of Women (Carlson and Eisenstat, Eds. Mosby, Second Edition, 2002) and is a contributor to the Encyclopedia of Psychology (Corsini, Ed., John Wiley, Third Edition, 2001). Dr. Landau’s career has been devoted to the education of both consumers and physicians and improving the communication between them. In the area of consumer education, Dr. Landau is the author, with Michele G. Cyr, MD, of The New Truth About Menopause: Straight Talk About Treatments and Choices from Two Leading Women Doctors (St. Martin’s, 2003).  She is also the senior author, with Dr. Cyr and Anne W. Moulton, MD, of The Complete Book of Menopause: Every Woman's Guide to Good Health (Putnam's/Perigee, 1995). Dr. Landau was a contributing editor at McCall’s Magazine and wrote a monthly health column for seven years.

In the area of medical education, Dr, Landau directs the Psychology and Psychiatry in Primary Care Curriculum in the Department of Medicine and conducts seminars on a wide range of psychological topics, including adolescent and adult development and the mental health needs of underserved populations. She was a cofounder of Women's Health Associates, a Brown Medical School-affiliated multidisciplinary group practice and provides consultation to medical practices and corporations on a variety of psychological topics.
