Every October, I try to think of how and what we need to say on the topic of breast health. What is the new news we can share or what is worth repeating? Yesterday I attended an amazing event called "All Faces of Breast Cancer … Wins & Challenges Town Hall ," sponsored by GE healthymagination in conjunction with our friends at Working Mother Media.

Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media and CEO of Diversity Best Practices, and Patricia Pearman, director of GE healthymagination Disparity Programs and U.S. Partnerships, did a fantastic job in moderating and hosting a stellar meeting at a lovely New York City venue.

The goals of this event were simple: to continue raising awareness about breast cancer, to reinforce messaging that screenings and breast self-examinations do save lives and to educate women on the kinds of breast cancer.

The panel of health experts and the real women sharing their experiences were exceptional. However, the highlight of my afternoon was the opportunity to finally meet Dr. Susan Love in person. Yes, I even managed to have my picture taken with her. During our conversation, Dr. Love shared some background on her new clinical trial titled The Army of Women. Bingo! This is the new news that I was looking for and will pass along for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Dr. Susan Love's The Army of Women clinical trial has two key goals:

  1. To recruit 1 million healthy women of every age and ethnicity, including breast cancer survivors and women at high-risk for the disease, to partner with breast cancer researchers and directly participate in research that will eradicate breast cancer once and for all.
  2. To challenge the scientific community to expand its current focus to include breast cancer prevention research conducted on healthy women.

To Join Dr. Love in this movement that will take us beyond a cure by creating new opportunities to study what causes breast cancer—and how to prevent it—register now at https://www.armyofwomen.org.
