Symptoms & Types of Vulvodynia

The most commonly reported symptoms are burning pain in the genital area and painful intercourse (dyspareunia); however many women also describe their pain as:

  • soreness
  • stinging
  • rawness
  • throbbing

The degree and duration of pain associated with vulvodynia are different for every woman. Some women experience pain suddenly when inserting a tampon, engaging in sexual activity, bicycling or, in extreme cases, even sitting for long periods of time. Other women have lasting pain and discomfort.
