The new Medicare prescription drug plan (Medicare Part D) went into effect on January 1, 2006, replacing the temporary drug discount card plan. The Medicare prescription drug plan is available to everyone with Medicare, regardless of income, health status or how you currently pay for prescription drugs. You will generally pay a monthly premium, depending on your plan and the yearly deductible varies between $0 and $265. Some people qualify for extra help in paying for their drugs. Everyone with Medicare needs to make a decision about prescription drug coverage. Even if you don't use a lot of prescription drugs now, you should still consider joining a plan. For help with finding and comparing prescription drug plans, visit the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder at http://formularyfinder.medicare.gov/formularyfinder/selectstate.asp. For more information, go to www.medicare.gov or call this toll-free number: 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
