Under the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), each state has a health insurance program for infants, children and teens. This insurance is available at low- or no cost to children in working families. It covers a variety of services such as health care provider visits, prescription medicines and hospitalizations. Children who are not currently covered by health insurance are likely to be eligible, even if their parents work. Each state has different eligibility rules, but in most states, uninsured children 18 years old and younger, whose families earn up to $34,100 a year (for a family of four), are eligible. Some states are covering entire families and not just children.
