Why Pets Make Great Caregiving Companions
Few life pleasures are as comforting as a dog or cat peacefully napping by your side. Pets can alleviate loneliness, lower blood pressure and stave off depression.

My son Joe DeVere was diagnosed with a more aggressive form of Multiple Sclerosis in 2002 six months after he married my daughter-in-law Rosanna. As a result of his disabilities he also had a serious car accident on August 2, 2005 and is now a paraplegic who continues to battle with secondary progressive Multiple Sclerosis. I so admire Rosanna my daughter-in-law and her commitment and love of my son.

Help for Taking Care of a Sick Spouse
There's no way to prepare for a serious illness in the family, especially one that seems to come out of the blue. We all learn how to cope with minor ailments as we age, but there's no set path for navigating all the aspects of a more serious condition and its effects on the family. And the truth is every family copes differently. However, there a few things to keep in mind when caring for your loved one.
Caregiver of the Month: September 2012

My dear friend, Terri, has devoted her life to care for her son 24/7 as he is mentally handicapped and prone to violent seizures. She is very protective of her son and does not trust anyone else to keep a close eye on him. Terri doesn't do much for herself at all, and is one of the most selfless people I now. I could not think of a more deserving person to nominate for Caregiver of the Month.
