womanDear Subscriber,
'Take 10' for You…
New Approaches to Diminish Depression

epression appears in many disguises—lack of energy, feelings of hopelessness, inability to concentrate, sleep problems, sadness—yet its face is most often female. Women of all ages experience depressive symptoms more frequently than men do. Many of us have tried talk therapy or antidepressant medication, with varying degrees of success.

Several natural ways may help you deliver yourself from depression, even while still on traditional treatment. In this month’s main article, "Out of the Blues: Depression Defenses that Can Help," learn about which natural treatments offer real, scientifically-validated benefits, and when to consider using them.

The Health Minute looks at how your brain health may depend upon what’s in your kitchen. Find out about foods that can strengthen your memory, help you think clearly, or even protect against cognitive decline. There’s more nutritional advice as the dietitian answers questions on which types of yogurt really benefit your body and whether calcium is affected by the caffeine in coffee or by other medications.
