Spinal Fracture Risk QuizText size: A A A August 8, 2008

Are You at Risk for Fracture?

Did you know that many factors - some within your control, others not - can affect your risk for bone fracture? One in two women over 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in her lifetime.

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and weak, making them more susceptible to fractures, especially of the spine, hip and wrist. The disease is responsible for more than 1.5 million fractures in the U.S. each year, including 700,000 spinal fractures, also known as vertebral compression fractures, or simply VCFs.

Osteoporosis is often referred to as a "silent disease" because it can have few warning signs in its early stages. While there is no cure for osteoporosis, there are steps you can take to optimize your bone health and help prevent fracture.

Take this quiz to learn more about your possible risk for fracture. Be sure to discuss your results with your health care professional. Use the "Questions to Ask" at the end of the quiz.

The following quiz is designed for informational purposes only. It is not meant to be a substitute for medical advice or treatment. Only a qualified health professional can assess your health and prescribe treatment.
