National Women's Health Report: Women's Health, Blood Donations and Blood Safety/December 2003
Author: National Women's Health Resource Center
Published by: National Women's Health Resource Center, Inc., December 2003
In terms of overall annual blood donation, men outpace women. With the nation's blood supplies running on razor-thin margins, the demand for blood increasing and the number of blood donors among baby boomers dwindling, attention is being focused now on gender differences in blood donation and ways to get more women to donate. In this issue of the National Women's Health Report, the National Women's Health Resource Center joins forces with the American Red Cross, the American Association of Blood Banks and America's Blood Centers to look at the growing crisis of the nation's shrinking blood supply and how the barriers to donation among women are being broken down.
In the 8-page flagship newsletter of the National Women's Health Resource Center, you can also learn about how the Red Cross is getting the equivalent of two donations now by offering "double red blood cell donations," why it's a myth that womencan't donate when they're having their periods, who should and shouldn't donate blood, what important clues your blood can tell you about your health and MORE!
