More than 3.2 million American older women have chronic dry eye--a condition that leaves your eyes dry and irritated and your vision blurred and compromised. With chronic dry eye, you don't produce enough tears or have poor quality tears, so your eyes don't get the moisture they need. Though the cause of chronic dry eye isn't known for certain, researchers suspect declining hormone levels at menopause is a major reason for the condition. Treatment is available. It's important to have your eyes examined by an eye specialist and to rule out any other conditions with similar symptoms. Learn more about chronic dry eye symptoms and how the condition is diagnosed and treated in: Chronic Dry Eye: What Women Should Know.
