If You Will Be Staying at the Hospital
If you'll
be staying at the hospital, you'll want to bring your essential
items like glasses or contact lenses and solution, and hearing
aids (including their cases or containers), if you normally
use these. Leave valuables like jewelry at home. Be sure to
bring medications you currently take in their original containers.
You will also want to bring x-rays, medical files or lab reports
that may be in your possession with you on the day of the
surgery. Other items to pack:
- Toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo [if
allowed to shower/bathe], deodorant, etc.
- A robe that opens at the front, non-skid slippers and
any other clothing you may need that is easy to get off
and on
- Ear plugs or eye mask if falling asleep might be a problem
in the noisy hospital environment
- Reading materials (books and/or light reading such as
magazines or crossword puzzles)
- Travel clock or wristwatch (inexpensive)
- Phone numbers of people you might want to call
- Pen and notepad
- Portable radio or walkman (with tapes or CDs: music or
readings)
- Health insurance card and any referral forms or other
documentation that are required
- Small amount of money for newspapers, etc.
- Food from home (if allowed)
- Family photos
- Aromatherapy materials (essential oils)
