The National Women's Health Resource Center, Inc. ("HealthyWomen") doing business as HealthyWomen believe strongly in an individual's right to privacy. We recognize that you trust us to provide quality health information. We apply these same high standards when we protect your Personal Information ("Personal Information" is defined as any information that identifies or can be used to identify the person to whom such information pertains) and Personal Health Information ("Personal Health Information" is defined as any information that combines your Personal Information with known health characteristics).
When you visit HealthyWomen's website, www.healthywomen.org (the "Website"), we may request and/or collect a minimal amount of Personal Information and Personal Health Information. This information is requested and/or collected in order to better serve you through the various applications on the Website.
The information included on the Website is provided free-of-charge, and we encourage visitors to gain access to as much health information as possible.
Disclosure of Information
How is Personal Information Requested and/or Collected and Used at HealthyWomen?
1. User (Consumer) Surveys - Our user surveys include registering Personal Information, such as name, email address, address, age, last education level attained, profession, ethnicity, primary language, household income, relationship status. Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary and the visitor therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose Personal Information.
The information gathered from user surveys is used for internal analysis purposes, so that we learn about the profile of our user audience. HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease, or otherwise provide to third parties any individually attributable information. HealthyWomen however, reserves the right to review and disclose aggregate data and information with third-parties to better serve our users, but will only do so in a fashion that protects from disclosure every user's Personal Information.
3. Women's Health Surveys - Topic-specific surveys at the site may or may not request a participant to register/provide Personal Information and/or Personal Health Information. Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary and the visitor therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose Personal Information.
The information gathered from these women's health surveys are used for internal analysis purposes, so that we learn, in aggregate form, about lifestyle issues, experiences and opinions of our users. HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease, or otherwise provide to third-parties any Personal Information and/or Personal Health Information. HealthyWomen, however, reserves the right to review and disclose aggregate survey data with third-parties to better serve our users, but will only do so in a fashion that protects from disclosure every user's Personal Information and Personal Health Information.
We ask for this information so that we may contact you as necessary for additional clarification and to address any questions or feedback that you send us. This clarification will help HealthyWomen continue to improve its website and information offered. HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease, or otherwise provide this Personal Information to third-parties.
a. Newsletter Subscriptions
When you subscribe to HealthyWomen newsletters, e.g., the News from HealthyWomen, we ask for Personal Information including your name, email address and zip code.
We use this information to verify your identity, process the transaction, confirm shipment information, and provide status reports related to orders. HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease, or otherwise provide to third-parties any Personal Information.
b. Publications – When you order publications offered on the Website, we ask for Personal Information including your name, email address, and shipping address. In addition, when there is an applicable shipping charge, we ask for additional Personal Information, including billing address, credit card number and expiration.
We use this information to verify your identity, process the transaction, verify receipt of payment, confirm shipment information, and provide status reports related to orders. HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease, or otherwise provide to third-parties any Personal Information.
6. IP Address - HealthyWomen collects Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for all of its visitors/users.
HealthyWomen uses this information in aggregate form to analyze visitor/user trends, administer the site, track users, and gather broad demographic information about our visitors/users. IP addresses are not linked to a visitor/user's Personal Information. HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease, or otherwise provide individual IP addresses to third-parties.
7. Email Lists – As described in this policy, HealthyWomen collects email addresses of users who communicate with us via email, including but not limited to survey information, site registration, and for fulfillment of subscription and purchase orders.
HealthyWomen may use this information in aggregate form to analyze visitor/user trends, administer the site, track users, and gather broad demographic information about our visitors/users. Email addresses are not linked to a visitor/user's Personal Information. HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease, or otherwise provide individual email addresses to third-parties.
8. Interactive Tools - HealthyWomen presently does not have interactive tools, however, HealthyWomen reserves the right to develop or license interactive tools in the future.
These forums are to be respected and to be used professionally. HealthyWomen will take steps to remove individuals and/or their posts from the forums that do not abide by the Community Site's discussions protocol, such as those who include abusive language or demonstrate pornographic behavior.
HealthyWomen will use information, including Personal Information, gathered from the Community Sites in the event that the participants violate the terms and conditions of these discussions and we need to contact users. In addition, HealthyWomen uses the information collected from the Community Sites to evaluate consumer thoughts and behaviors in aggregate form.
10. Email A Friend/Social Media Services - In the event that a visitor uses our service to inform a friend about the Website and/or to send information via email or a social media service (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn), we ask for Personal Information, including registration information, his/her email address, and the friend's name and/or email address.
How Does HealthyWomen Disclose Information?
HealthyWomen does not sell, rent, loan, lease or otherwise provide any Personal Information collected at our site to any third-parties.
When you logon to the Website, a cookie is generated on the server, or the machine that hosts the site. The cookie is a randomly generated number that does not include any of your Personal Information. This randomly generated number or cookie remains on the server machine, not on your computer, until you leave the site. When you visit the Website again, a different, unique randomly generated number or cookie is assigned.
Web Beacons – We also may use Web Beacons to collect Non-Personal Information about your use of the Website and your use of special promotions or newsletters. The information collected by Web Beacons (i) allows us to statistically monitor how many people are using the Website, (ii) how many people open our e-mails, and (iii) for what purposes these actions are being taken. We do not link Non-Personal Information from Web Beacons to Personal Information without your permission and do not use Web Beacons to collect or store Personal Health Information about you.
How Does HealthyWomen Secure Your Information?
HealthyWomen places your Personal Information as its highest priority. Therefore, when you provide Personal Information on the Website, we use a unique security system that combines leading technical safeguards, encryption and a code of conduct for employees who access any information. HealthyWomen uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology in transmitting your Personal Information to our servers to ensure the integrity and privacy of your Personal Information. Also, all transactions are conducted through secure servers, which are protected behind state-of-the-art firewalls, and only selected HealthyWomen personnel and contractors have access, via password, to them.
You should be aware that there is always some risk involved in transmitting any information, personal or otherwise, over the Internet. How Does HealthyWomen Cooperate with Law Enforcement Officials?
HealthyWomen cooperates with all law enforcement inquiries and with third-parties to enforce their intellectual property or other rights. Therefore, those third-parties, local, state and federal law enforcement officials can obtain your Personal Information and/or Personal Health Information as a result of a legal requirement. By way of example, HealthyWomen may be required to disclose information to the government or others under certain circumstances (e.g., matters of national security, law enforcement or other issues of public importance), or third-parties may unlawfully intercept Personal Information and/or Personal Health Information. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. Neither HealthyWomen nor any of its services are designed or intended to attract children under the age of 13. We do not collect Personal Information from any person we know is under the age of 13. A parent or guardian, however may use HealthyWomen with a minor. The parent or guardian is solely responsible for providing supervision of the minor's use of HealthyWomen. The parent or guardian assumes full responsibility for ensuring that the registration information is kept secure and that the information submitted is accurate. The parent or guardian also assumes full responsibility for the interpretation and use of any information or suggestions provided for the minor.
Information from Third Parties
In the course of business, HealthyWomen may partner with third-parties in an effort to more broadly disseminate health information, as well as receive services/information for the Website. These partners may include, but are not limited to, dot.coms, health care companies, news services, and vendors. HealthyWomen does not and will not sell, rent, loan, trade, lease or otherwise provide Personal Information to these third-parties. HealthyWomen does not endorse and is not responsible for the privacy policies of these third-parties, as indicated in the above section (Information from Third Parties) nor is it legally responsible for content that they provide to HealthyWomen.
The Website contains numerous links to health information, corporate and organizational websites. HealthyWomen does not endorse and is not responsible for the privacy policies of these third-parties, nor is it responsible for content that they provide. We encourage our users to review and understand the privacy policies posted at these sites.
The HealthyWomen offers free e-mail newsletters. They include HealthyWomen Take 10, a monthly e-newsletter; two editions of News from HealthyWomen, one for consumers and one for health care professionals, which are mailed twice a month; and Sex & a Healthier You, a monthly e-newsletter.
Anyone can subscribe to these newsletters; the only information that is required is a valid e-mail address. HealthyWomen sends e-mail newsletters only to those who have specifically given us their permission to mail them to them. HealthyWomen will never sell, rent, loan, trade, lease or otherwise provide your newsletter subscriber data or Personal Information to third-parties without your advance permission.
All e-newsletters offered by HealthyWomen contain a remove link at the bottom of the message. A subscriber may remove their e-mail address permanently from the list by clicking the link and selecting the "unsubscribe" function.
