HealthyWomen Take 10 is the new online newsletter from the National Women's Health Resource Center, the nation's leading nonprofit women's health organization. The newsletter's name reflects the latest research showing that even short bursts of physical activity can help women improve their health.

"HealthyWomen Take 10 is all about getting active and eating healthfully during our busy work and family lives, said Amy Niles, president and CEO of the publisher, the National Women's Health Resource Center. "We'll give our subscribers practical, lifestyle-oriented tips and tools they can put in place by taking 10 minutes out for themselves every day."

"Ten will be a theme for this newsletter," Niles continued. "For example, we know that taking 10,000 steps every day is one of the best ways to get and stay in shape. To help our subscribers start on the road to their daily 10,000, Accusplit pedometers will send a free pedometer to our first 500 subscribers."

Each issue of the newsletter will include a short, useful feature article based on the latest scientific research in fitness, nutrition or general health topic. For the inaugural issue the feature is "Little Things Really Do Mean a Lot: Healthful Rewards from Small Amounts of Exercise." Also included in every issue will be an Ask the Expert column with a leading dietitian or exercise/fitness trainer. Jo-Anne M. Rizzotto, M.Ed, R.D., L.D.N., C.D.E., a dietitian at Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, serves as the expert in the first issue answering questions about food and nutrition. Each issue will also include nutrition and fitness tips and recipes along with quick links to relevant NWHRC publications and web site materials.

"Our patient education mission dovetails with the goals of HealthyWomen Take 10," said Catherine Carver, M.S., A.N.P., C.D.E., Director of Educational Services at Joslin Clinic, Boston. "We are dedicated to helping women take charge of their health through the prevention of type 2 diabetes and effective self-management if they already have the disease. By writing regular columns with practical tools and advice for HealthyWomen Take 10, we aim to reach many of the approximately 9.3 million women in the U.S. who have diabetes, and the millions more at risk for the disease."
