New Health Report from the National Women's Health Resource Center Provides Help For Managing Disabling Pain

The not-for-profit National Women's Health Resource Center today released the National Women's Health Report, "Pain & Women's Health," which warned that the under treatment of chronic pain in women is a severe problem in our society and leads to lack of productivity and a reduced quality of life. The free report explores how pain--both chronic and acute--affects women's health and offers suggestions from leading pain experts for how to best manage the impact of pain symptoms.

Of special interest in this report are these articles:

  • COX-2 Inhibitors: With all the recent headlines surrounding COX-2 inhibitors, what do women really need to know to make an informed decision on treatment?

  • Slightly more than half of chronic pain sufferers also report having major depression. Low doses of anti-depressants are also used to treat chronic pain. We explore whether the pain causes the depression or whether the depression makes the pain worse.

  • Migraines headaches are three times more prevalent in women than in men. The section of the report, Migraines & Women, explains how hormones may be the culprit in many migraine attacks.

  • Commonly Asked Questions about Treating Pain, featuring pain management in older adults

  • Lifestyle Corner: Managing the Impact of Pain, featuring unique pain management tips by NWHRC's medical advisor, Pamela Peeke, MD, MPH.
