Review the following Questions To Ask about human papillomavirus (HPV) so you're prepared to discuss this important health issue with your health care professional:

  1. What kind of HPV do I have and how does it affect my risk for developing cervical cancer and other diseases?

  2. What procedures can you do if I have an abnormal Pap test? Does that mean I have cancer?

  3. Please explain the treatment you recommend. Given the wide variety of treatment options available, why is one better for me than the others?

  4. How much does each treatment cost and how many treatments will it take to permanently remove my warts?

  5. What are the side effects of this treatment?

  6. What should I do if my symptoms or treatment becomes painful?

  7. Can I have sex during the treatment period?

  8. If I'm pregnant, or plan to get pregnant, how will HPV affect me and my baby?
