6-Step Makeup Application to Bring Out Your Natural Beauty
The holiday party is about to begin, and you haven't looked in the mirror all day. Not to worry. Unless you're 16 and want to be covered in glitter, 'tis the season to embrace a natural, effortless look with just a touch of color here and there.
Always apply makeup to a cleansed, well-moisturized face (preferably using a moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher).
Foundation. Begin with a lightweight foundation to smooth over any fine lines for a youthful, luminous glow.
Eye liner. Apply a rich dark navy eye liner along both the top and bottom lash lines to enhance the whites of your eyes and give them an instant pick me up. Look for a liner that blends easily for a softer line.
Mascara. Apply a lengthening mascara from the base of the lashes to the tips. Hold the mascara brush against the base of the lashes and slightly wiggle it back and forth before combing it through to the tips of the lashes. Finish the mascara application by applying the product to only the tips of the lashes. If you opt for more than one coat, be sure to let the mascara dry between coats to avoid clumping.
Blush. For a healthy glow and well-defined cheekbones, continue your look with a little sweep of the cheeksjust be sure not to overdo it!
Lip liner pencil. Define and fill in your lips with a lip liner pencil that matches your lipstick for easy blending. A good quality neutral lip liner can be used with most shades of lipstick, while strong colors of lip liner must be used only with matching lipsticks.
Lipstick. Top off your completed look with a moisturizing lipstick. For lip color that lasts, blot your lips with powder and apply a second coat.
Festive French Twist in 10 Minutes or Less
Looking for an easy-to-master stylish updo that can take you from the office to a party in under 10 minutes? Try the French twist! Its sophisticated and flattering style makes it the perfect choice. For added glamour, accessorize your hairstyle with pretty clips or rhinestone-embellished pins.
Before you begin, we suggest you create this style on hair that is not freshly washed since clean hair may be too slippery to stay securely pinned. If you wish to shampoo your hair before creating the style, apply a good styling product to give your hair texture and hold.
Brush your hair smoothly back, gathering hair at the nape of your neck, slightly to the left.
Lift your hair up so that the tips are pointing upward, and twist to the right creating a twist in the back of head.
While still holding ends with one hand, twist tighter until you feel as though the twist is secure and tight.
With your other hand, fold the ends down toward your nape, under the twist.
Hold the twist in place while you pin your hair with bobby pins. Be sure to use bobby pins that match your hair color.
Secure bobby pins in an upward position and far enough in so that they can't be seen. Use enough pins until it feels tight enough, but don't overdue it.
Use hair spray to hold your style and to tame any stray hair.
