Silent ischemia
Sometimes diseased arteries can't deliver enough blood to the heart; this can occur with no symptoms. An electrocardiogram (EKG), which is a measurement of electrical impulses produced by the heart, may indicate silent ischemia. However, unless a woman knows her risks for heart disease and decides, with the advice of her health care professional, that she needs a heart checkup, she may never know she has ischemia. Diabetics are especially at risk for this condition.
