Secondary Sjögren's syndrome
When Sjögren's arises in association with other autoimmune/rheumatic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus, it is called secondary Sjögren's syndrome. Sjögren's is a chronic, incurable disorder in which immune-system cells attack and destroy the glands that produce tears and saliva. The syndrome is named after Swedish ophthalmologist Henrik Sjögren.
