Catheter: A thin flexible tube used for various procedures. It can be inserted through the urethra into the bladder to drain urine. People who use catheters long-term are at risk for urinary tract infections. It also can be inserted into a vein to give drugs, fluids, nutrients or blood products, or to withdraw blood, and it can be used in procedures to evaluate the heart.
