Health Content Development
All health content at Healthywomen.org is original content developed by the National Women's Health Resource Center, Inc. (NWHRC). The editorial staff of the NWHRC that develops content consists of experienced medical journalists and editors.
Health topics are presented based on their importance to women's health, wellness and/or lifestyle considerations. Ideas for health topics are generated by the editorial staff of NWHRC, medical experts associated with the NWHRC, and consumers.
The editorial staff carefully researches each topic in-depth to determine the most appropriate and timely information to present to the consumer. Research includes consulting primary and secondary sources and may include consultation and interviews with medical experts. Medical experts consulted for content background are associated with respected academic institutions and/or respected professional associations.
The NWHRC retains complete editorial control of all health content. In the event that the development of health content is supported by an educational grant from a third party, content remains objective and in full control of the NWHRC. The NWHRC does not permit third-party sponsors to control content development, nor introduce specific information about therapeutic treatment options or products directly into content. Information about treatment options is written and published by the NWHRC, and is presented in a comprehensive manner.
Medical Review of Health Content
Once content is written, the NWHRC's editorial director and senior Web manager ensure that the content is accurate, current, comprehensive, easy to read and appropriate. The content is then submitted for a review of medical accuracy to one or more medical experts, who may be members of the NWHRC's Women's Health Advisory Council, or other individuals who are recognized leaders in their medical specialties. Information is posted at Healthywomen.org when content has been medically approved by these experts.
