Go Below the Belt for Pelvic Health

authored by Elizabeth Battaglino

Laughing so hard you wet your pants is one thing, but female incontinence is no laughing matter.

As women, we face a variety of issues that can affect our pelvic floor throughout the years: childbirth, shifting hormones, the aging process and even trauma can cause unpleasant complications.

When muscles and tissues of the pelvic floor weaken, atrophy or elasticity loss can lead to common problems like incontinence, prolapse and pelvic pain.

The pelvis is more than the region between your hips you've been unnerved about since puberty. Housing an intricate structure of reproductive and vital organs, the pelvis is a key component to your overall health and wellness.
And let's not forget that strengthening these muscles can help increase sexual satisfaction!

Our friends at the Women's Health Foundation will host a fund-raising and awareness event on June 4 in Chicago. The Below the Belt gala will be held at Gallery 1028 with food, drinks and a special performance by musician Lisa Loeb.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Women's Health Foundation, a nonprofit organization, and will help in its fight for women's pelvic health.

We at HealthyWomen are proud to recognize champions of women's health who, like us, are raising awareness and empowering women to speak up and fight for what's important to them.

I hope you will consider supporting the Below the Belt gala or any women's health initiatives in your own backyard. No matter what you do, your support is sure to be a knockout!

In good health,

Thanks for promoting our event! We are so excited about this year's blow out which is sure to be the biggest and bestest. (Yes, that is a word.)
