Caregiving Guide
Caregiver of the Month: May 2012
Submitted by Roxanne M.
I would like to nominate my loving partner, Gerald, as an amazing caregiver. During the same week that we learned we were pregnant with our first child, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through it all, Gerald was by my side, accompanying me to every doctor appointment and chemo treatment while juggling his overnight shifts at a foster home. He changed my drains after my surgeries and gave me the shots I needed to keep me healthy during chemo. After we were blessed with a beautiful, healthy daughter, which he named Serenity, Gerald instantly became the best father to her. He has done more than his share of the parenting work in her first year of life, as I recovered from surgeries and cancer treatment. Through the past year, Serenity and I received all of the attention and care, while Gerald stood quietly by our side as the compassionate caregiver, husband and father. I would like nothing more than to give Gerald the recognition he deserves.
