Choosing a Plastic Surgeon
When choosing a plastic surgeon, look for:
- Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. You can verify board certification at http://www.abms.org/login.asp.
- A surgeon who is comfortable answering your questions.
- A surgeon recommended by friends, relatives or other medical specialists.
- A surgeon who specializes in the procedure you are seeking. For instance, if the surgeon only performs five or six breast reduction procedures a year, you should probably find someone with more experience.
- A surgeon who continues his/her education with training sessions in new techniques, through continuing medical education, etc.
- An operating room (whether in the surgeon's office, outpatient or hospital setting) accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).
- A well-run office environment with friendly staff who respect your privacy.
