Dr. Silverman is Medical Director of the Osteoporosis Medical Center, a non-profit research center in Beverly Hills. He is Clinical Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr Silverman has served as Acting Chief of Rheumatology at West Los Angeles VA. He is Board certified by the American Boards of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and the co-joint Boards of Allergy and Immunology.
Dr. Silverman lectures internationally in the fields of osteoporosis and fibromyalgia. He is a member of the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) Scientific Advisory Board. He is a charter member of the Women's Health Committee at Cedars-Sinai. Dr. Silverman has published 46 peer reviewed scientific articles on rheumatology and osteoporosis as well as numerous abstracts and chapters. He maintains an active private practice in rheumatology and osteoporosis.
He has been the principal investigator for 35 osteoporosis studies. He is the developer of the Osteoporosis Assessment Questionnaire or OPAQ, an internationally used osteoporosis-targeted quality of life self-assessment instrument. He is co-developer of a self-management program for women with osteoporosis. His research interests in osteoporosis include quality of life measurement, prevention and treatment of postmenopausal and glucocorticoid osteoporosis, male osteoporosis, patient decision-making, and development of patient education and self-management programs. His research interests in fibromyalgia include behavioral self-management and clinical research into new therapies.
