Morris Wortman, MD, FACOG

Founding Director
Center for Menstrual Disorders and Reproductive Choice
Rochester, NY

Dr. Wortman was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He received his bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College (1972) and his medical degree at the University of Rochester (1976) where he also completed his internship and a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 1980 to 1986 he served as Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Genesee Valley Group Health Association where he became interested in office and outpatient surgery as well as gynecologic microsurgery. He was director of their infertility program and also began the second office-sterilization program in the nation.

In 1986 he left to go into private practice. At that time he became interested in performing pregnancy terminations in a supportive office setting. He also began his 14-year study of hysteroscopic surgery, which has benefited many thousands of women in the United States by substituting an outpatient procedure to replace hysterectomy in women with abnormal uterine bleeding. In 1991 he founded the Center for Menstrual Disorders and Reproductive Choice.

Apart from medicine he has been an aviation enthusiast since 1983 and currently holds three national and three world aviation speed records

Dr. Wortman has published some 30 articles on a wide variety of medical, social and political issues. Most notably his article, I won't let fear stop me, was published in Newsweek's December 15, 1998 edition, six weeks after the assassination of Dr. Barnett Slepian.
