| | Organization's Mission Statement: The Elizabeth Blackwell Center is committed to providing education,
support and access to healthcare in the areas of women's health, parenting
and wellness. The Center is guided by an approach to life which empowers
women and those close to them to achieve individual and collective
wellness.
The Center's vision is to improve health status, and enhance the quality of
life; to create and model a system of healthcare based on wellness, healing
and prevention; to honor differences and respect choices; and to embrace a
holistic approach to life.
The Elizabeth Blackwell Center first opened in 1985, and was the first
freestanding women's center in Columbus, Ohio. The Center was proudly
named after America's first female physician, Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell
(1821-1910). Dr. Blackwell came to the forefront as a catalyst for change at
a time when the healthcare needs of women were not clearly understood.
She believed that all people had a right to quality healthcare, and that
women had a role to play in providing that care. |
