Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA)
| | Organization's Mission Statement: Founded in 1881, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association [formerly Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association (NDMA)] is the national trade association representing U.S. manufacturers and distributors of nonprescription, over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and dietary supplement products.
CHPA and its members seek a constantly improving system of responsible self-care so Americans can participate more fully in managing their own health care.
What CHPA Does:
- Provides leadership in the science of OTC medicines and dietary supplements to enhance the sound scientific basis for these products.
- Promotes self-regulation. The Association's voluntary programs and guidelines pursue the goal of furthering consumer safeguards in packaging, labeling, advertising and marketing.
- Represents its members before federal and state agencies and legislatures. The goal is reasonable and responsible regulations to best serve national and consumer health needs under a competitive system of manufacturing and marketing.
- Exchanges information with its members on important OTC and dietary supplement industry issues, including developments in science, research, legislation and regulation.
- Provides information and education to health professionals, the government, the media and the public about responsible self-care using OTC medicines and dietary supplements.
- Serves as the industry spokesperson with the media and other influential audiences on key OTC industry and dietary supplement issues.
CHPA Structure:
- Active member companies are firms that manufacture and distribute OTC medicines and dietary supplements.
- Associate members are companies that supply goods or services to the active member companies. Associates include testing laboratories, advertising agencies, advertising media and manufacturers of bulk chemicals and packaging.
