About The Expert
Linda M. Speer (aka French), MD, is professor and chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Toledo’s College of Medicine and Life Sciences since November 2006.
She is a 1988 graduate of Universidad Austral de Chile’s Medical School, ranking first in her class. After graduation she worked as a primary care physician in the Chilean health care system for two years, the experience that led to her commitment to primary care medicine.
Upon return to the United States in 1990, she completed her specialty training at the Oakwood Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Dearborn, MI. She stayed on as a faculty member in the program until 1999 during which time she advanced her skills in evidence-based medicine, women’s health, curriculum development, and academic and clinical administration.
From 1999-2006 she was associate chair in the Department of Family Medicine at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, first as associate chair for clinical affairs and later senior associate chair.
